What are Some of the Projects in Process?

Ping Whuffie

Ping Whuffie is at concept stage right now. Basically, it's the idea that wherever we are and whoever we meet, it would be awesome to be able to find out how trustworthy they are.

In Corey Doctorow's novel, Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, he uses whuffie to describe the capital of the future, which is, basically, transparent Social Capital. In the future, it is the only capital and has replaced currency altogether. A person’s Whuffie is a general measurement of his or her overall reputation, and Whuffie is lost and gained according to a person’s favorable or unfavorable actions.

We want to take this concept and allow people to be able to ping the whuffie of products in a really simple way...via sms or whatever (later on, we will look at people...but this would have to be carefully constructed as to avoid becoming yet another rapleaf or technorati 100). Whuffie measurement will be an aggregate of sentiments from blogposts, tweets, review sites and a simple command-line voting system (i.e. give whuffie Canon EOS + or give whuffie Holiday Inn -). You may both give and ping whuffie, but it will be less of a destination and more of an engine for other sites to use to display aggregate whuffie.

Open Source? Yes.

SmoochyBot

Formerly known as The Lovendar (someone else has the trademark on it), SmoochyBot is a calendar aggregator specifically designed for families. It includes the stuff you don't normally put into your calendar, but you really should.

We have business plans, social plans and event plans...but why don't we plan for things like a walk in the park, having a romantic movie night in with your girlfriend, taking your kids out to fly a kite?

SmoochyBot makes certain you find and set aside that 'free time' for the things that matter the most.

Ye Olde BarnStar

Back in the days of MeatBall yore, we began awarding one another the BarnStar. It's awarded less frequently now, but it still gets used once in a while. It's also mildly popular on Wikipedia. BarnStar history shows that the idea spread to other wiki communities.

BarnStar is definitely SpreadingLove. It's a combination of "thank you", and also "job well done", plus "valued member of this community".
